A dear friend of mine introduced me to Concerts At The Barn, a gorgeous, music venue in Port Gamble. Mark and Lynn Shorn have transformed their property into a local treasure and destination for musicians.
The evening starts with a potluck, where you never know what goodies will be out on the table. Homemade, caramel brownies, cobblers, or pies. Fresh salads, Smoked Salmon, or other Northwest favorites.
Everyone brings their favorite bottle. Dear friends of mine who make their own wine and ciders, Mark and Amy Hoffman, always delight with their latest curations. I am especially fond of what we call Malbec by Mark! A fancy name, right?!
Local Kombucha is always on-site as well, for those who imbibe non-alcoholic drinks.
Alas, this is all the warm-up to the joy that is in store! The barn was completely remodeled to include an upstairs area with views overlooking the venue. Gorgeous décor creates a warm ambiance in the barn (yes, it is heated!). The venue seats about one hundred people, and everyone has a great, up-close view of the musicians. The acoustics are amazing. Mark and Lynn bring in a wide array of musical genres. I have heard Folk, Blues, Country, and even some spoken word poetry. It is a “Suggested Donation” venue. Typically, people give around $25.
This barn takes me back to a simpler time and place, where we spent time with neighbors, laughed around a shared meal, and were invited into the backyard for music and impromptu dancing.

Some of the greatest nights out with my girlfriends have happened at the barn. Check out this event on Facebook at Concerts at The Barn.
I hope to see you there! It is a unique experience to charm all the senses. Start thinking now about your signature dish for the potluck!
